Dear people of deviantART and the internet, I present: Bubble Gum, a Skype Chat Style.

My friend and Designer James and I decided over a month ago that we would enter the Skype Chat Style Contest. After his amazing job creating the design it was my job to turn it into CSS.

The Skype chat CSS is a pain. It's cluttered, nested in a way that is inhuman and not very easy to understand fast enough IMHO. I had that confirmed by James, who heard a lot of complains about it all over the web.

The reason we decided to release it already is simple: We tried hundred of times to submit it to the Skype contest but all we got were auto-generated rejection emails indicating either that it just didn't work (without any explanation WHAT didn't work) or that the CSS was missing (which is bogus, we've checked several times. It's in there!).

Eventually we got fed up and even though we won't win anything now (tbh I doubt anyone will win anything. It acts too much of a scam if you ask me) we didn't want to throw away the big effort we put into the theme and instead share the wealth.

Enjoy this theme like we're enjoying it. And feel free to tell us about any bugs or importances we forgot to add.

how to "update" this theme for skype 6.x

go to ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/Chat Styles/

select your theme, show package contents, and open the info.plist in any text editor.

you are looking for line 26, change the integer value from “6” to “7” as follow:

<key>MessageViewVersion</key>

<integer>7</integer>

save, and voila!

or just put this file in ~/Library/Application Support/Skype/Chat Styles/

Thanks for very nice theme!
Is there a possibility to change the look of the quotes? In Win versions quotes are marked, highlighted so that they are good recognizable from the answer to the given quote, but in Mac version somehow it's absent...

Very nice! A little bit dark imho but looks very nice, I love it.

Also, if chat messages could be grouped into the same bubble that would make it perfect. I wish it was easier to build Skype chat styles!

It certainly is. That is, as long as you use Skype for Mac 5.x.

We made the theme when Skype announced their Skype for Mac theme contest. I haven't gotten in the mood to work on a Skype for Windows theme. Because it would mean, once this theme breaks I have to do the whole thing again on 2 OS's... :/
